Since 6-months visitor visas are most common and after issuance of six-month multiple entry visitor visas, a good majority of the applicants intends to apply for a long-term visitor visa, therefore, apart from providing information relating to the processing time for UK business long-term visitor visa, UK long-term tourist visa and long-term family visit visa UK from outside the United Kingdom., this post sheds some light on the fee structure of the long-term visas and the logic behind challenging a refusal decision.

Long-Term Visit Visa Processing Time 2018, Fees, Refusals

Long-Term Visitor Visa UK Processing Time, Fee, Refusals

The details for Long-Term Visit Visa UK Processing Time from a random sample of twenty-five (25) UKVACs during the month of January 2018 indicates that usually most of the applications are processed within 10-15 working days i.e. 2 to 3 weeks. However, in some cases, the decision exceeds 15 days, but it is concluded within 30-60 days. If the applicant has purchased the priority service then there is quite a fair probability that the visa application might be processed within 2-5 workings days. If an applicant doesn’t receive the decision within 15 working days or 3 weeks of the application then it is quite certain that it is due to the extended evaluation process.

Long-Term Visit Visa Processing Time | UKVI Service Standards

The service standard of UKVI for long-term visitor visa applications is to process 90%, 98% and 100% of the applications within 15, 30 and 60 working days, i.e. 3, 6 and 12 weeks, respectively.

For priority service, the service standard of UKVI is one week; however, purchase of priority service neither guarantees a favourable outcome nor a grant of a long-term visa for the intended duration. Moreover, an application may not be disposed of within 5 working days in spite of purchasing priority service due to further checks, verifications and even interviewing an applicant before concluding the application.

UK Long-Term Visitor Visa Fee Structure

According to Home Office Fees 2017/18, the costs of 2, 5 and 10 years, long-term visitor visas are £337, £612 and £767, respectively. Here it is pertinent to mention that the Fee is expected to be revised slightly upwards in April 2018.

Long-Term Visit Visa Fee has an Inbuilt Discount

Since many people think that the prices of UK’s Long Term Visitor Visa are quite high, therefore, it is important to note that the price of 6-months visitor visa is £89 and if we multiply it by a multiple of 4 (for 2 years), 10 (for 5 years) and 20 (for 10 years) then the corresponding figures are £356, £890 and £1,780. Therefore, there is an inbuilt discount in the pricing structure of £19, £278 and £1,013, respectively, for 2, 5 and 10 years visitor visa application over the 6-months visa application.

Not Prudent to Directly Apply for Long-Term Visitor Visa

It is not prudent to directly apply for a long-term visit visa i.e. if an applicant intends to apply for a 2-years multiple entry UK visitor visa then in the recent past, he/she must be either a holder of at least one 6-months visitor visa to the UK, which is usually a pre-requisite for issuance of the long-term term visitor visa or there is some genuine need/reason that an applicant can establish conclusively for frequently visiting the UK.

Better to Challenge the Refusal Decision

If a long-term visitor visa is refused then an applicant needs to think seriously regarding challenging the refusal decision through judicial review because after the refusal it is quite likely that a reapplication will only be able to fetch a 6-months visitor visa in spite of paying the fee for a long-term visitor visa, which is non-refundable.  For further details relating to UK long-term visit visa rules and professional immigration services, please read out post: Long-Term Multiple Entry Visa Applications, professional services for visitor visa applications and How immigration solicitors help challenge a refusal decision?
